General Information
Specialty virtual desktop service provides users remote access to a full CMU Windows desktop from anywhere and any device. It is intended for users requiring unique or limited availability environments such as software testing, or software with limited licensing for a specific number of users or timeframe. These virtual desktops replace physical servers and desktops with scalable options for always on availability. This environment provides flexibility and fault tolerance to meet the computing needs of the faculty and staff at CMU.
A checklist for requesting specialty virtual desktops must include:
- Number of virtual machines needed
- Technical specifications for each machine
- Software requirements for each machine
- Licensing for software if not already CMU site licensed.
- User(s) requiring access
- Date for decommissioning of virtual machine pool
Eligibility
Any CMU faculty or staff member requiring virtualized computing resources.
Cost
Pricing for a base machine is $200/yr or $16.66/month.
Base VM's include 2 processors, 2GB memory, 100GB system drive and 100GB storage drive.
Additional options include:
$8.50/CPU per month
$8.50/GB RAM per month
$12.50/100GB Storage per month
Additional resources are available as needed per project.
