OIT Student Employment

The Office of Information Technology is a wonderful place for students interested in learning more about campus systems and prepare themselves for an ever-changing workforce. OIT offers a vast array of jobs across campus to suit all different levels of technical skill, and the purpose of this form is to be used to recruit students into departments across all of the Office of Information Technology.

Ideal candidates vary from department to department, but generally candidates need to work well with others, demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills, maintain a high level of professionalism, and must be able to work at least two full semesters before graduating.

  1. ARC Student Technician
    • Learn valuable skills and get paid all while earning your degree! The Academic and Research Computing Team (ARC) within the Office of Information Technology is seeking motivated, trustworthy individuals to join our team! Responsibilities will include but not be limited to installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software and computer hardware, working one on one with faculty on various technical requests, responding to classroom support calls, and assisting with any other technical issue or request that may arise within the various academic colleges.
       
  2. CONNECT CMU Student Employee
    • CONNECT CMU offers discounted cellular service through AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to the CMU Community: students, staff, faculty, alumni, retirees, and departments.  Service representatives provide administrative and technical support to CONNECT CMU customers; Provide information and resources to internal and external switchboard customers; Identify, diagnose, and resolve service and equipment issues; Respond to incoming requests from multiple channels, including phone calls, messages, email, and chat requests; Utilize ITSM software to record interactions, log time and progress, and communicate with customers regarding their requests.   3. Healthcare IT Student Technician
    • HCIT is seeking student techs who are motivated to learn about customer service, hardware, and software, as well as systems support and management. Our Healthcare IT Student Technicians provide in-person and remote support to the College of Health Professions, and College of Medicine, as well as numerous healthcare clinics and research areas across campus. We perform our duties with a high level of professionalism due to the sensitive nature of the environment we support.   4. Help Desk Analyst I
    • The OIT Help Desk is the primary provider of technology support for the entire CMU community. Help Desk Analyst I employees provide 1st Level technical phone, chat, and in-person support for all campus systems, Global ID accounts, campus telephone and network infrastructure, Mac and PC operating systems, and mobile phones. Technical support services are provided remote and in-person to all CMU faculty, staff, students, and guests.
       
  5. Media Services Classroom Technician
    • Provide Tier 1 audio/visual support for campus classrooms, conference spaces, and study areas; may include but is not limited to supporting CMU faculty, staff, students, and guests with the operation of AV systems via on-site training and troubleshooting; interact with the ticketing system, track troubleshooting efforts, and resolutions; provide supplemental support of PC and Mac computers; perform preventative maintenance of AV hardware; perform regular functionality testing of AV systems and assist with AV equipment installation and upgrades. Availability over summer break preferred.
       
  6. Network Technician
    • Network Services is looking for trustworthy, dependable, and motivated students to join the networking team here at CMU. You will provide support for the campus network on the main campus and remote campuses; troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues for faculty, staff, and students; assist in network upgrades and maintenance; and learn what it takes to manage an enterprise network.
       
  7. Tech Ops Expert
    • TechOps provides technical support to various departments around the CMU campus.  As a TechOps Expert you will work alongside other CMU students and staff in Windows and Mac (mostly Mac) platforms, Printers, and our ticketing system to provide support both remotely and in-person. We provide you with training to develop your troubleshooting/resolution skills for Macs, PCs, and Printers without any previous experience required. A valid US driving license is preferred.
       
  8. Tech Services Technician
    • Technical Services provides desktop support to a variety of departments across CMU's Mt Pleasant campus and beyond. As a Tech Services Technician, you will work hands on with university staff members and student employees both in-person and remotely. We give you the tools and training to be able to resolve just about any technology issues with no experience required.
       
  9. Security Analyst
    • Information Security monitors and reacts to an ever changing threat landscape. As a Security Analyst, you will identify emerging and established threats and provide resolution to these types of situations. You will work with log analysis, alerts, and user reports to gather evidence and create documentation. You will learn the fundamentals of security, and expand your existing skills with development, project management, and critical thinking.
