Copying Announcements and Discussions from Original Course View to Ultra

This guide pertains to Ultra Course View.

If your course is in Original Course View, see the Original Course View tutorial collection.

Overview

In Blackboard Ultra, there is not currently an option to copy announcement posts and discussion board forums from Blackboard Original. Instead, you may opt to use the course copy function in the Original Course View to complete this action. Please note that HTML coding does not successfully translate to Ultra.

Alternatively, you may opt to use the import and export tools to migrate materials.

Course Copy Explanation

Before starting this process, ensure that you have deleted all unneeded announcements and discussion boards. Additionally, you must delete all threads and discussion board postings.

1. In the left-hand course management menu, select the “Packages and Utilities” option. This will open a list of options below. Select “Course Copy”.

2. Change the “Select Copy Type” option to “Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course”.

3. Enter the course ID for your desired destination shell in the open space. You will have to use the “Browse” option to select the correct course after searching for it.

4. Under the “Select Course Materials” option, check the “Discussion Board” and “Announcements” boxes.

5. Ensure that the “Course Files” section at the bottom of the page has the “Copy Links and copies of the content” option selected.

a. Additionally, leave the “Enrollments” box unchecked as shown in the screenshot below.

Once the course copy is complete, you will receive a confirmation email via your CMU Outlook account.

Blackboard Ultra’s content editor resets all text to be in the same default format. Please review all content to ensure that its new format matches CMU’s accessibility standards. Also, review the announcement and discussion knowledgebase articles to familiarize yourself with Ultra’s updated features.
