Grading Group Assignments

Grading Group Work

Follow the steps in the Gradebook Overview tutorial to access your group’s submitted work.

You may view your student’s work on the left side of the screen. Annotations and individual download options are available as normal.

Note: Blackboard does not allow you to download group submissions in bulk.

The group name will appear at the top of the screen. To see the team members, click on the arrow highlighted below.

To delete the submission or add exceptions, click the three-dot icon.

Once you are ready to enter a grade, click on the pill icon shown under the purple box below and type in the score.

Note: The score provided in this area applies to each team member. To assign a different score to an individual student, follow the steps outlined below. Ensure that you post your scores when finished.

Adding Feedback

You may add feedback for the entire group or select members via the window on the right side of the screen. Select “Group” and include your feedback in the textbox.

Alternatively, select “Individual” to provide comments that are only visible to a specific member of the team. Use the arrows to navigate between team members.

Ensure that you post your scores when finished. See the linked article for more information about providing feedback.

Assigning Different Grades to Group Members

Once you have assigned a grade for the team, you may use the Grades tab to provide a separate score for a specific team member.

Return to the Grades tab and locate the cell where the student’s name and group assignment title meet. Click on the cell.

Type a new score and click the “Enter” key. Blackboard will ask if you plan to assign this score to the team. Select “No”. Ensure that this grade is posted.

Notes:

  • If one or more students in a group have accommodations or exceptions assigned, those parameters will apply to the team.
  • Existing exemptions only apply to the relevant student(s).
  • Removing or changing group membership will not influence their grades so long as you have already assigned them.
