Understanding the Course Interface (Student View)

Overview

Upon entering a Blackboard Ultra course shell, five navigational tools appear at the top menu. Each of these items will direct you to a certain area of the selected Blackboard shell. Below is a quick guide regarding how to navigate each of these tabs and their function.

Content

The “General” area of a course shell; contains assignments, assessments, and other items uploaded by the instructor.

Calendar

See events specific to the course that you are currently entered.

Announcements

Announcements are instructor communications with all students enrolled in the course. The announcements tab displays all announcements made thus far from newest to oldest.

Discussions

Filters out all content except for existing discussion forums.

Gradebook

View posted grades, your submissions, and instructor feedback.

Messages

The messaging system is a one-on-one version of announcements where the instructor may reach out to specific students. Note that as a student, you may only respond to instructor messages and reach out to members of your group.

Groups

Use this tab to view all groups, your group mates (and their school email addresses), and sign up for groups.
