Adding Browser URLs as Course Links

When to Use?

This article will walk you through capturing a URL link from your browser that directs students to a page within in your Blackboard course. This is an alternative to using Course Links in the Ultra course view.

Procedure

1. On the Blackboard homepage, click on the "courses" option. Select the course that you want to edit.

2. In the homepage, you will now see the general course URL in your browsers address bar. This is your course’s homepage link and will always direct users back to the same course.

3. Click the content area where you plan to direct students. For this example, an assignment link is used. You can only link to content that opens in a new page, so you can not link to a Folder or a Learning Module.

4. Highlight the desired link from your browser by double clicking the URL (located at the top of the screen), right clicking, and selecting copy. Alternatively, you may use the "Ctrl+C" shortcut.

5. You can now paste this link where you want your students to see it (for example, as a hyperlink in an Announcement). When students click the link, they will be taken to the specified page directly.

6. When creating a new announcement, start by typing out the content of the message. Highlight the word(s) where you want the link to appear. This example uses the phrase "first assignment" to serve as the link.

7. Next, click the Link icon in the text editor.

8. Your highlighted text will show up as the Link text. Now you can paste the URL you copied earlier into the Link URL field. Click "Insert".

9. When students click the link, they will be taken to the specified page.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  When copying content from one teaching shell to the next, the link built in the above manner must be updated to sync with the new course shell being used otherwise the link will not work for students.
