Genetec Security Desk: Naming Convention

To maintain an organized environment, a naming convention has been created to easily identify the ownership and purpose of entities in Genetec. While these standards may not fit every scenario, please try to utilize the structure to provide consistency and provide feedback on this article if you feel changes should be made.

Note: Room numbers should include the building code before the number, even if the building name is included in the name. (ex. Pearce - Math - PE210)

Cardholder Groups

Manual Groups

  • <BuildingName> - <DepartmentName>
    • Add "- <Purpose/Description>" if multiple groups are necessary for the department (ex. Park - OIT - Helpdesk)
       
  • <BuildingName> - <Purpose/Description>

Automated Groups

  • zzCardSync - <CourseDesignator> <CourseNumber>
     
  • zzCardSync - <DepartmentName>
    • Add "- <Purpose/Description>" if multiple groups are necessary for the department (ex. zzCardSync - OIT - Tech Services - Students)

Schedule / Access Rules

When a Schedule and Access Rules are created to provide access for a specific Cardholder Group, the name of each should match the Cardholder Group. Otherwise, use one of the following conventions.

  • Global - <Purpose/Description>
    • "Global - " should be used when it is used by multiple buildings.
       
  • <BuildingName> - <Purpose/Description>
     
  • <BuildingName> - <DepartmentName>
    • Add "- <Purpose/Description>" if multiple Schedules/Access Rules are necessary for the department (ex. Park - OIT - Infrastructure)
