IP Addresses For Assessments

IP Addresses Overview

On the Student Activity Log, the IP address is recorded for a submitted test or test that has been started but not submitted.  An IP Address is a specific network address that identifies each device using the Internet or local network to communicate. IP addresses can help compare data while reviewing a student's test-taking behavior.

As a general rule, IP addresses on CMU's main campus start with "141.209".  Tests taken at CMU's Certified Testing Center in the Park Library will have an IP address that start with "141.209.76".  IP Address Lookup can be used to further identify the location of the IP address.

A few words of caution:  IP addresses can fairly easily be faked or modified.  A computer may get a different IP address over time.  The IP Address LookUp site provided is not a CMU-supported site and users are cautioned to use at their own risk.

To access, go to the Gradebook > Students Tab > select the desired student > Activity Log.
