Class Conversations in Blackboard Ultra (Student View)

Explanation

Class conversations are a feature that allow students to ask questions and discuss ideas. You may create posts that are visible to the entire course or private posts within their groups. They are always optional and never factor into your final grade. Class conversations can appear under documents, assignments, and assessments. Class conversations must be enabled by your instructor and may not be available.

Locating Class Conversations

Class conversations appear upon clicking on a document, assignment, or assessment.

Within documents, class conversations are accessible via the icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

For tests and assignments, class conversations are accessible in two places. When clicking on a test or assignment, a menu appears on the right side of your screen. Said menu displays a general overview of the activity’s rules. In the top-right corner, you will see a small speech bubble icon. Clicking on this icon will allow you to view the class conversation.

Alternatively, if you have entered a test or assignment, you may click on the text icon in the top right corner of your screen.

Navigating and Participating

Once you have entered a class conversation, you will see posts from other users in your course.

Click on the box at the top of the page to create a post. You may include text, tables, or attach files in this space. When you are finished writing, click on the “Respond” button.

To respond to other users in your course, click on the blue “Reply” text under the post where you plan to communicate. Here, you may type out your response and select “Reply” when you are finished.

If the given assignment or test requires you to be in a group, you will be provided with a small drop-down box that allows you to toggle between the class and group conversation. Posts created under the group setting will only be visible to other students within your team and the instructor.
