When to Use
Journals are ideal for individual projects or creating personal spaces for students to communicate privately with you. Follow the instructions below or watch the video to learn how to create a journal in Blackboard Ultra.
Procedure
1. On the Course Content page, select the plus sign.
2. Select Create. Under the Participation and Engagement section, select Journal.
3. Add a title for the Journal:
4. Add a prompt to set expectations for your students. You can use the options in the editor to format text, attach files, and embed multimedia. Once you have created your prompt, select Save.
5. To make a journal count for a grade, select the settings icon.
6. Select Grade Journal. You may then add the due date, maximum points, and rubric.
7. Set the visibility options using the bar in the top-right corner.
Participation Tab
Instructors can move from the Journal page to the Participation page by clicking on the Participation tab located near the top left corner. Here, instructors can view a student's participation status in the Journal activity. Filters provided allow instructors to view each student's journal entries based on their status. This can help streamline the grading and feedback process.
