Web Grades: Importing Grades from a Blackboard Course

Important note about Title IV Aid Compliance and Web Grades
In accordance with federal regulations, any student being given an  I, Z, or E grade, must receive a last date of participation that is documented and can be provided during compliance audits if requested. Documentation must align with the student's last academically related activity. If you are teaching an online course(s), you must ensure that the documented last date of participation is visible in the online platform. Participation is defined as active engagement in the instructional activity related to the course of study and includes the following:

  • Attending a lecture where interaction between the instructor and students can occur
  • Handing in homework
  • Taking a quiz
  • Posting information/comments on the course platform

Simply logging into the course online platform without engagement is not active participation.

  • If there are multiple Blackboard Course Shells (e.g. a Classroom and a Lab) and no Combined Course Shell for a given Course in Web Grades, you will be prompted to select the specific shell to import grades from.

  • The Import Grades from Blackboard button will be disabled if the grading period is already closed or the course has already been graded

  • The grade import feature is not available for the Change Grade workflow

  • At this time, Blackboard does not allow for manual entry, score or letter, into the Total Column
