Blackboard: The Enrollment Process

All enrollment information is automatically updated in Blackboard based on data transferred from the SAP/SLCM system --it is generally a rare case where manual intervention may be required to update Blackboard directly.

Most enrollment activity (adds/drops) executed by a student using the course search/registration system are processed in 'real-time'. Within moments of adding a course, a student can expect to see this course listed in Blackboard; the reverse also holds true for drops--the course will be removed almost instantly.

Administrative adds/drops (i.e. those executed by someone other than the student) are not instantly updated in the system, but are updated throughout the day starting at 7:00 am every day and then triggered to repeat every hour.

Instructor course assignments are also handled by the snapshot based on information housed in the university information system (SAP/SLCM). If an instructor has been properly associated with the course in SAP/SLCM, the data will be updated to Blackboard. While student enrollment data is updated almost instantly in the system, instructor and course data is processed only once daily during the 8PM snapshot. Therefore, if a course section was just added or an instructor has just been associated to the course, it should be updated in Blackboard within 24 hours.
