Grade Pill Overview

Each instructor determines how the Overall Grade column displays the grade to students (e.g. Letter grade, as points or a percentage).  When Letter Grade is selected, the letter grade displayed is determined by the total points available in the course and the grading schema that determines the letter grade earned.  The Overall Letter Grade and grades earned on individual graded activities displays the letter grade in a grade pill  that displays in a color based on the grade earned.  Grade pill colors cannot be changed.

Grade Pill Colors Explained

By default, the grade pills appear in five colors. The five colors represent performance and appear for all roles. The highest score range is green and the lowest is red. You can't customize these colors or the percentages.

The colors map to these percentages in your course and Gradebook:

  • > 90% = green
  • 89–80% = yellow/green
  • 79–70% = yellow
  • 69–60% = orange
  • 59–50% = red
