Procedure
Before you begin grading your discussion, ensure that you have enabled grading for the given forum.
1. Enter your course and go to the Gradebook tab. If your students have created new posts, the “Overview” tab will tell you that the given discussion needs grading. Select “Grade Now” next to the relevant discussion to begin.

2a. While grading discussions, you will review one student’s work at a time. The current student’s name will appear at the top of your screen. Below their name, you will see dates displaying when they participated. In the example below, this student participated after the due date.

2b. The discussion topic is labeled as such and displays the prompt or instructions for the forum.

2c. Below the prompt, you will see the student’s activity. Specifically, Blackboard displays the content of their posting and the date and time when it was created. Their posts will be highlighted and you may need to scroll to see their participation. Note that you will only see activity from other students if the user that you are grading has responded to them. If desired, you can use the Discussion Analysis panel for further insight on the quality and level of writing made by the student in their posts.

2d. If your student has posted an image, it will display in the browser. Other files, such as Microsoft documents, will need to be downloaded via the three dots option shown below.

3. Click on the grade pill in the upper right corner to enter their score. You will be required to grade using a rubric if one has been uploaded.

4. Click on the box icon to add feedback if needed. Said feedback is only visible to yourself and the student.

5. Use the three dots to edit your feedback, toggle the discussion analysis display, and post your grade.

6. Once you are finished grading, use the arrow in the upper corners to move between students.
